WordPress plugin settings reference

Every setting on the Alt Text Studio settings page and what it does.

All settings live under Alt Text Studio → Settings in wp-admin. Here is what each one does.

1

Generation output

  • Languages — generate alt text in any of 194 languages; English is always primary. Each language counts toward the credit cost.
  • Text lengthNormal ≈ 1 sentence (1 credit) or Detailed ≈ 1 paragraph (2 credits).
  • Prefix / Suffix — up to 45 characters each, added to every alt text.
  • Also populate — optionally write the generated text into the image title, caption, and/or description as well.
2

Accuracy and tone

  • Auto-context — on by default; gathers hints from filenames, the parent post, captions, and product attributes, used only when they match the image.
  • Use SEO keywords — pull focus keyphrases from your SEO plugin automatically.
  • SEO keywords / Negative keywords — up to 10 each, used as fallbacks and exclusions.
  • Custom prompt — up to 500 characters of tone or context.
3

Behavior and access

  • Auto-generate and When to generate — see Automatic alt text on upload.
  • Overwrite existing alt text — replace alt text when re-processing (off by default).
  • Public site — uncheck for local or staging sites so files upload directly.
  • Allowed image types — JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF.
  • Access roles — which roles can use the plugin; administrators always have access, and editors are included by default.
4
