Generate alt text with the Chrome extension
Right-click an image, capture a screenshot, scan a page, or paste a URL, CSV, or HTML, all from the popup.
The extension gives you several ways to turn images into alt text. They all use your saved settings and consume credits the same way the web app does.
Right-click any image
Right-click an image on any page and choose Alt Text Studio - Generate alt text for this image. The result appears in a draggable overlay on the page.
Right-click the page for more options
Right-click an empty part of a page (not on an image) for these options:
- Screenshot to alt text — select a region of the screen to describe.
- Scrape page for all images — list every image on the page.
- Scrape images missing alt text — list only images with no
altattribute. - More ways to generate... — open the popup's full input panel.

Click Screenshot to Alt Text in the popup (or use the right-click option). Drag to select an area (press Esc to cancel), then click Generate Alt Text. Handy for part of a chart, a canvas element, or anything that isn't a normal image tag. The result overlay adds Copy Image and Save buttons for the captured PNG.
Scan the current page
In the popup, use All Images to list every image on the page, or Missing Alt Only for just the ones without alt text. Each row has a thumbnail, filename, and a checkbox (all selected by default). Click Generate Selected or Generate All. Tiny images (under 50px), embedded data URLs, and unsupported formats are skipped automatically.
More ways to generate
Expand More ways to generate for five tabbed inputs:
- Image URL — paste a direct image link.
- Upload — drag-and-drop or browse a file (PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, up to 20 MB).
- HTML — paste HTML or a list of URLs, then click Extract Images.
- CSV — upload a CSV with a URL column (template links are provided).
- Scrape URL — enter a webpage address and scan it without opening it.
Copy, edit, or download the result
Every result overlay has Plain Text, HTML, and JSON tabs. Copy puts the current tab on your clipboard, and Download As saves it as .txt, .html, .csv, or .json. On the Plain Text tab you can edit the text; if the result is saved to your account, Save Changes and View in Library appear.
