Shopify app settings reference
Every setting on the app Settings page and what it changes.
Settings in the Shopify app come in two groups: Generation Defaults, which shape the alt text itself, and Shopify Behavior, which controls how and when the app writes to your store. Click Save Default Settings to apply them.
1
Generation Defaults
These are the same controls as the web app's Options panel, and they apply to every generation unless a product page overrides them:
- Auto-detect Context — on by default; improves accuracy using context around the image. See how Auto-detect Context works.
- Ecommerce — Brand, Product, Primary Color, and Secondary Color. Leave Brand blank to fall back to each product's Shopify vendor; Product always uses the product's Shopify title unless you override it on that product's page.
- SEO Keywords — up to 10, to optimize searchability. See how to add SEO keywords.
- Negative Keywords — up to 10 words to avoid. See how to add negative keywords.
- Custom Prompt — up to 500 characters of extra context or tone. See how to add a custom prompt.
- Prefix & Suffix — wrap every alt text, e.g.
Photo ofat the start. See how to add a prefix or suffix. - Text Length —
Normal ≈ 1 sentence (1 credit)orDetailed ≈ 1 paragraph (2 credits). See how to change text length. - Languages — English plus any others you want; each one adds to the credit cost. See Multi-language alt text.
2
Shopify Behavior
Three settings with no equivalent in the web app:
- Overwrite Existing Alt Text — when off, Bulk generate and automatic generation skip images that already have alt text. Regenerating a single image from a product page always overwrites, whatever this is set to.
- Auto-generate for New Images — generate alt text automatically whenever a product image is added in Shopify, with no clicks from you.
- Update File Title to Match — also set the Shopify file title to the generated alt text, which helps on storefronts that display file titles as captions.
Auto-generate spends credits without you being in the app. If your balance matters, keep an eye on it while adding a lot of products.

Overriding defaults for one product
Every product page has its own Options panel that starts from these defaults. Changes there apply only to generations you run from that page — Bulk generate and auto-generate always use the saved defaults. See Generate alt text for one product.
