Billing and credits in the Shopify app
Why Shopify bills your subscription, which plans are available, and how credits reach your account.
A subscription started from the Shopify app is billed by Shopify, not by alttextstudio.com. Shopify requires every app in its App Store to charge through Shopify itself, so the charge lands on your regular Shopify bill next to your Shopify plan.
Subscribe from inside the app
On the app's Home page, click Get more credits or Change plan. Either one opens Shopify's own plan picker, where you choose a plan and approve the charge. Approving brings you back to the app, and your credits appear right away.
The plans match the ones on our website
Same plans, same prices, same credits — only the payment method differs:
- Starter — 4 USD / month for 100 credits, or 39 USD / year for 1,200 credits.
- Basic — 14 USD / month for 500 credits, or 139 USD / year for 6,000 credits.
- Pro — 36 USD / month for 2,000 credits, or 359 USD / year for 24,000 credits.
- Business — 88 USD / month for 5,000 credits, or 879 USD / year for 60,000 credits.
- Enterprise — 169 USD / month for 10,000 credits, or 1,689 USD / year for 120,000 credits.
Credits from a Shopify plan work exactly like any others: they roll over, they never expire, and you can spend them in the web app, the Chrome extension, and the WordPress plugin too. See About credits and pricing for what each generation costs.
When credits arrive
Shopify does not send us a notification when a subscription starts or renews, so the app checks your subscription itself whenever you open it. In practice your credits are there by the time the plan picker returns you to the app. If a renewal's credits have not shown up yet, open the app once and they will be granted.
Upgrade, downgrade, or cancel
All of it happens in Shopify's plan picker — click Change plan on the app's Home page. You never need to reinstall the app or contact us to switch plans. The charge and its history appear in your Shopify admin alongside every other app you pay for through Shopify.
One subscription per account
An Alt Text Studio account can be billed by Shopify or by alttextstudio.com, never both. If you subscribe in Shopify while the connected account already has a subscription from our website, the app shows a banner on Home explaining that the Shopify plan could not start — cancel the website subscription, then reopen the app.
Going the other way, an account that pays through Shopify shows a Billed through Shopify badge in My Account, and its Manage subscription button opens the Shopify plan picker instead of our Stripe portal.
Credit packs are not sold in the Shopify app
Shopify's app pricing covers recurring plans only, so the one-time credit packs are not part of what the app offers. If a plan's credits are not enough for your catalog, move up to a larger plan from Change plan.
Uninstalling the app
Uninstalling cancels the subscription, so it stops renewing and the plan ends on your Alt Text Studio account too. Credits you have already been granted stay, and your library is untouched. Reinstalling does not bring the plan back on its own — you choose a plan again the same way you did the first time.
