Automatic alt text on upload
Generate alt text for every new image as it is added to the Media Library.
With auto-generate on (the default), every image you upload gets alt text shortly after, with no extra clicks.
Turn it on or off
In Alt Text Studio → Settings, the Auto-generate checkbox controls this: *Automatically generate alt text when new images are uploaded*. It is on by default.
Queue vs instant
When to generate sets the timing:
- Queue (recommended) — the upload finishes instantly and alt text is added in the background a moment later.
- Instant — alt text is generated during the upload, which is more reliable on low-traffic sites but makes uploads take longer.
What gets skipped
By default, images that already have alt text are left alone. Turn on Overwrite existing alt text in Settings if you want re-processing to replace what is there. Only the image types you allow in Settings are processed.
Local or staging sites
If your site is not reachable from the public internet, uncheck Public site in Settings. The plugin then uploads each image file directly instead of asking the service to fetch it by URL.
